As you may have already been aware of, Siquijor Island is also known for its wonderful long stretch of fine white sand beaches. This has gained a lot of points for the islands popularity all over the Philippines and the whole world. Just basing on our last couple of trips to Siquijor Island just this year (2017) compared to last year’s trips, popularity has becoming evident by simply seeing a lot of foreigners at boat trips going to the island. On our previous year’s trips to Siquijor Island, seldom you would see foreigners more than 10 in one boat trip from Dumaguete City. But this year, you can see lots of foreigners and even locals from other provinces in boat trips from Dumaguete City, Bohol province and even those from Santander, Cebu even they have just recently opened direct trip to Siquijor Island. Well, this is not based on statistics from any government agency though but you’ll surely get the point.
From Cebu City direct to Siquijor Island via Lilo-an Wharf in Santander, Cebu
Lilo-an Wharf in Santander, Cebu is aproximately 140 kilometers away or around 4 hours bus ride from south bus terminal in Cebu City. But if you’ll be hiring a tourist van or hire cebu rent-a-van, it would only take 3 hours even less if you depart from Cebu City early. As of writing, there is only 1 trip schedule from Lilo-an wharf to Larena port in Siquijor Island and is scheduled to depart at 10:00AM with Maayo Shipping. I suggest if you take bus, you must depart at around 5:00AM or earlier to make sure you still have time for breakfast and buy ferry tickets. Please make sure to mention to the ticketing personnel that you’ll be taking the 10:00AM trip direct to Siquijor as there are other trips for Sibulan Wharf in Negros Oriental which is our next option. Lilo-an Wharf to Larena Port will take at least 2 hours boat ride.
From Cebu City to Siquijor Island via Sibulan Wharf then Dumaguete City, Cebu
If by any reason you can’t catch the 10:00AM trip to Siquijor Island from Lilo-an wharf, you can take another route which is almost the same as our first option. The difference is instead of taking direct route to Siquijor, you’ll have to pass through Sibulan Wharf. From Sibulan to Dumaguete City, you can hire tricycle for just Php100-Php150 to take you directly to Dumaguete Port. You can also take multicab trips for just less than Php30 / head but you still have to transfer to a tricycle by the time you reach Dumaguete City to take you to the port.
