We’ve been passing through Dalaguete countless times as we do adventures in Oslob, Cebu, in Negros Oriental and even in Siquijor Island via Lilo-an wharf in Santander, Cebu. Several times we talked about dropping by but unfortunately we end up very tired and exhausted on those days that we pass through Dalaguete. We never really allocated time to try this adventure. Maybe because we always travel with kids and they might not want to do the trekking. But finally, we’ve inserted a schedule for the climb upon going to Santander, Cebu again.
Anyway, Osmeña Peak is located at the municipality of Dalaguete approximately 87 kilometers from Cebu City or probably around 2 and half hour drive for private cars. Depending on traffic though especially if you leave early around 4:00am or 4:30am, it might just take you less than 2 hours to get to the town proper. From the town proper, Osmeña Peak is still approximately 19 kilometers away and located in barangay mantalungon.
The Trek to Osmeña Peak in Mantalungon, Dalaguete, Cebu
Osmeña Peak is known to be the highest peak/mountain in the whole Cebu province with an elevation 1,013 meters above sea level. Trekking to the top of Osmeña Peak is a bit hard for me especially as I smoke a lot and it’s really hard to catch breathe. By the way, it is just me and my wife who climb the peak. We left the kids at the parking area coz I have the feeling I may have to carry my 5 year old daughter and I am certain I won’t last to the top if carrying extra weight. It took us only around 15-17 minutes of trekking with a few stops for rest. The trail wasn’t really that hard to pass through. The only thing that makes the climb hard is catching your breathe.
When at the top, wind blows are really stronger than usual (obviously) and you can see lots of mountains around it with almost of the same shape. The best comparison would probably be the famous chocolate hills of Bohol but here at Osmeña Peak, mountains are just sharp-pointed. According to the guide, the best time to climb here is during early morning for the sunrise view or during late afternoon for the sunset view of the whole island and neighboring island like Negros Oriental.
Suggestions for the Trip
The best way to save on transportation cost on your trips here in Cebu is to have multiple places in a day. So I suggest to have these trek to Osmeña Peak combined with Oslob Tours which includes whale shark watching, tumalog falls, sumilon island sandbar and sanctuary. If you prefer this arrangement, better have the tour on a weekday. You can still even insert here a visit to Simala Shrine.
Another option is to combine it with Kawasan Falls and Canyoneering adventure in Badian, Cebu and Chasing waterfalls at Cambais Falls in Alegria, Cebu.
